【TOEIC多益單字加油站】相似字篇--resume、restore、restrain、restrict、refrain

今天戴爾美語多益老師來推薦一組很常出現的多益相似單字--resume、restore、
restrain、restrict、refrain。這些英文單字皆是“re”開頭，依照其英文意思分成兩
組，分別是 (1)resume與 restore ；(2) restrict、restrain與 refrain。其意思一樣，
但用法卻有些不同。今天就來學學這中間的差異性吧！

多益很常考的單字題型裡，有一種選項組合是四個英文單字都長得很像，我們就把它稱為“相似字考題”。今天戴爾美語多益老師來推薦一組很常出現的多益相似單字！

1. adapt (v.)
   (1) 使適應：adapt (oneself) to N/Ving
    例：It took the new employee approximately three months to adapt to the
            new environment.（這名新進員工花了將近三個月才適應新環境。）
   (2) 改編
    例：This best-selling novel is going to be adapted for television.
          （這部暢銷小說即將被改編成電視劇。）

2. adept (adj.) 精通…的 + in/at
    例：He is adept in/at art.（他精通藝術。）
    例：Ben is an adept mechanic.（Ben是一位熟練的技師。）

3. adopt (vt.) 採用；領養
    例：This approach has been widely adopted by many enterprises.
          （這種方法被很多大企業廣泛採用。）
    例：There are innumerable reasons to adopt a pet rather than buy one from
            a pet store.（有數不盡的理由去領養寵物而取代從寵物店中購買。）

【翻譯】我們在這個地點必須要採用較低調的方法，避免不需要的注意。
【解析】must後面需要加原形動詞，這樣可能答案只剩A、B與D。
   (A)為採用、(B)為適應、改編、(D)為使負債，後方的單字approach當
   作名詞，意思為方法，所以我們知道答案要選A才合適。

1. evoke (vt.) 引發（感情、印象）= invoke
    例：That old melody evoked/invoked memories of my childhood.
          （那首舊旋律喚起我的童年回憶。）

2. invoke (vt.) 祈求；訴諸於（法律）
    例：During the baptism, the priest will invoke a lifetime of blessings
            for the infant.
          （在洗禮期間，牧師將會祈求這嬰兒擁有一輩子的祝福。）              
     例：The celebrity will invoke assistance from the police to keep stalkers
             away from his property.
           （這個名人將會尋求警方的協助使跟蹤者遠離他的住所。）

3. provoke (vt.) 激怒 ；激起
    例：A snake is quite harmless, unless provoked.
         （除非被激怒，否則蛇通常都無害。）              
    例：His remarks have provoked a great deal of controversy.
          （他的言論引發了很多爭議。）

4. revoke (vt.) 撤銷；廢除
    例：The court has decided to revoke Jason's parole and send him back to
             prison.（法院決定要撤銷Jason的假釋，並將他送回監獄。）
    例：The fitness center is going to revoke his membership because he has
             not paid his annual dues.（因為他還沒付年費，健身中心即將
             廢除他的會籍。）
